A Warm Welcome In Queens / Ep 142 / Blue City Radio

Episode 142:

NYCFC traveled to Queens this week to host the Columbus Crew in the final regular season game of the season.  Will this be the last time NYCFC plays in Citi Field? Will Queens be the future home of NYCFC’s soccer specific stadium?  We’ll have to wait to find out, but what is certain, is that NYCFC can get 20,000 fans to travel to that destination.

Mike and Jon look at the game, the impact the move to Queens had on the team and the fans.  In the second segment Kyle Schnitzer from the NY Post joins the show to give his thoughts on this week’s game and NYCFC.

A Bad Week Saved By Jason Davis / Ep 141 / Blue City Radio

Episode 141:

Let’s face it.  It was a miserable week all around.  The USMNT failed to qualify for Russia 2018.  NYCFC suffered a poorly timed loss in Gilette Stadium.

Luckily, Mike and Jon have guest Jason Davis from Sirius XM on the show to discuss the US Soccer conundrum and a little NYCFC.

There’s Still MLS / Ep 140 / Blue City Radio

Episode 140:

This will be one of the most dated episodes ever done.  Typically recording on Monday and then posting on Wednesday isn’t that much of an issue.  But when the USMNT gets eliminated from the World Cup on Tuesday, it’s tough to sound relevant if you’re not talking about their failure.

Mike and Jon do discuss the “more official” announcement from Andrea Pirlo about his retirement from soccer in December. They also discuss the US win over Panama  and the US U17’s strong showing in India.

The second segment gives a snapshot into the New England Revolution and how the team looks after the firing of Jay Heaps as Alex Almeida from Six States One Pod joins the show.

Episode 138:

It’s been a difficult time for NYCFC.  It’s also been a struggle for Blue City Radio.  A string of poor offensive performances for NYCFC has left desperately needed points and some off topic episodes left some listeners avoiding Blue City Radio.

Jon and Mike return to discuss NYCFC’s trip to Chicago. Then in the second segment Glenn Crooks joins the show to give his coach’s perspective on NYCFC’s current run of form.

The show closes with a discussion on what followers think of Patrick Vieira’s level of responsibility in NYCFC’s slide.

Stuck In the Mud / Ep 137 / Blue City Radio

Episode 137:

NYCFC has wasted quite a few chances not only in the game Saturday versus Houston, but in the last few weeks as well.  With Toronto falling in their last two games and Atlanta United winning their last five, NYCFC needs points, and they just haven’t gotten them.

Mike and Jon look at the news of the week for NYCFC. There’s a bright side to most of NYCFC’s woes.  The team is getting some injured players back and progress however slow is moving along on the stadium site.

In the second segment Christian Araos from Empire of Soccer joins the guys to tackle some tough subjects including politics and sports, and more.

Frustrations Abound in Colorado / Ep 136 / Blue City Radio

Episode 136:

NYCFC conceded a late goal to the last place Colorado Rapids on Saturday night costing the team two points at a critical time of the season.

Mike and Jon discuss the game and what was not working for the team.  In the second segment, Joe Chadwick joins to the to give his thoughts on the game and his perspective of the mood in Dick’s Sporting Good Park.

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times…

Andrea Pirlo shined in Wednesday’s 1-0 victory for NYCFC over Sporting Kansas City, but it would only take one play on Saturday to erase that memory and remind MLS and world soccer pundits alike that Pirlo is Pirlo.

Mike and Jon recap the pair of games from this week. In the second segment The Armchair Analyst, Matt Doyle, joins the show to give his thoughts on NYCFC and VAR.

Between International Call-ups and injuries, NYCFC will be pretty thin for Wednesday’s game versus Sporting KC.  Things improve, but just moderately for Saturday’s game against Portland Timbers.  Luckily for Vieira, both of this week’s home matches are against Western Conference opponents.

Martin Bihl from Last Word on Sports joins Mike and Jon this week as the trio try to figure out how Patrick Vieira will approach these games.

In the middle segment the guys breakdown the USMNT World Cup Qualifier loss from Friday night in New Jersey.

In a week of mostly bad news for NYCFC, the only bright spot was the 1-1 draw from Red Bull Arena on Friday night.
